The austere composition and use of light focusing on the centre of the face correspond to Yves Noir's intention to give the individuals displayed in the following exhibits a strong presence. And thus the faces approach us directly and immediately. Haunting and insisting they raise questions the answers to which remain a secret hidden behind their austere expression.

The title Réflexion was chosen in the double sense of the word:on the one hand, it means the guided meditation on oneself as a spectator within the situation in front of and mediated by the picture; on the other hand, it implies the mirroring of what has been- not least pointed to by the lighting mood. Once again, the staged self-projection encroaches on the observer; and the open question is posed as to whom the role of the gazed object falls to, who is actually facing whom here.
